Recommendations by our CEO, Andy

  • Desk frame

We only offer a single desk frame option - the Flexispot E7Q. This is a four-legged standing desk (which can move up and down). Having four legs makes the desk much more stable. We recommend a standing desk as Sara is quite short, and this helps get the right height even if you don’t use the standing feature.

Check out the desk frame here.

  • Desk size

Sara’s current desk is 120×60cm, which is too small and not deep enough.

We recommend at least 140×80cm, which will give enough room for the screen and laptop without being too large. We would suggest 150×80cm to be the sweet spot in terms of size.

The desk edge can be customized; we recommend a “bullnose”, which curves the top of the desk to make it comfortable when resting your arms against it.

  • Desk material

We don’t recommend buying Flexispot’s desk tops - they are low quality wood, generally packed with cardboard.

Instead, we recommend Solid Wood Tops - this is a company that finds other companies to make a solid wood desk top. We recommend oak, with a natural finish, which gives the desk a warm colour.

The company that made the CEO’s desk was called Made In The Cellar, from Sheffield. We can approach them directly.

  • Chair choice

We’ve tried to select chairs that aren’t too “office-y”.

We’ve selected three manufacturers, and four chairs.

From Herman Miller - the Asari High and Low.

From Humanscale - the Freedom Task Chair.

From Steelcase - the Leap v2.

  • Trying the chairs

We suggest travelling to Back2 - they have Herman Miller and Humanscale, along with many other chairs, that you can try. They’re not far from your house, where you live.
